1 in 10 keep heating on all day despite risk of energy debt

According to Confused.com, 1 in 10 households keep their heating on all day to keep their house warm for when they return home. This, however, could be putting their finances under pressure and putting them at risk of running up energy debts.

The website’s research found that a large number of households in the UK are wasting money by heating their homes unnecessarily.

Just over 1 in 5 (22%) of pet owners admitted to leaving their heating on to keep their pets warm, while 37% of homeowners said they would crank up the heating before thinking about reaching for warmer clothes.

An IVA expert for the IVA Forum said that billpayers could easily cut their costs by taking a few simple steps – such as turning the heating down or closing all doors and windows to keep the heat in.
